The Dark Effects of Blue Light

Today, we are surrounded with technology, more specifically, artificial lights coming from LEDs.

There are LEDs in our computers, our phones, our TV screens… Really everywhere!

But you probably don’t know that those light sources are emitting a certain kind of light called “Blue Light”, or High-energy visible light (HEV light).

There have been serious researches concerning HEV light, and those researches are saying that HEV light is responsible for many vision troubles.

So in this article, we’ll discover together what is this blue light and how it can affect your health.

Is light dangerous?

The light and the sun are beneficial for our mental and physical health.

For example, the vitamin D, which is synthesized in our organism by the sunlight, is responsible for healthy bones.

So, at first sight (no pun intended… ), light is good.

But, now we’ll talk about other kind of lights, that are unhealthy for you.

Ultraviolet (UV)

When overexposed to this light emitted by the sun, it can provoke serious eye pain, and damage the structure of your eyes.

When overexposed for a long period of time, it can be Blue light glasses the cause of macular degeneration which can cause blindness or visual impairment.

Violet/Blue Light

Blue light is good for your health because it helps to regulate your biological clock.

But a part of this light, called the “Violet/Blue Light” is dangerous for you. But for now, let’s just call it the HEV light.

What is this nasty blue light?

HEV light is very energetic compared to the rest of the visible spectrum, hence it’s scientific name: High-energy visible light (HEV light).

And if you didn’t skipped physics class, you probably remember that light is just an energy; a radiation.

It means that HEV light is bombarding your eyes with much more energy, causing serious retina damages, eye fatigue and even headache.

It can also affect your biological clock, leading to sleep problems, mood shift and even depression.

How to prevent damages?

Sadly, it is very hard to prevent any damages.

Like I said, we’re exposed everyday to this light.

If you want to prevent the nasty effects, then avoid spending too much time in front of a screen, especially in the evening, before going to bed if you don’t want to have any sleeping problems.

And avoid to be in a complete dark room with your screen as your unique light source. Always remember to switch on the light.

You should also know that there are glasses made to protect your from HEV light. And those special glasses can also act like normal glasses by correcting your vision if you have any trouble.

Conclusion

As you can tell, there is no definite way to prevent eye damage from HEV light, it is just about changing your habits for the better.

Thank you for making it this far! I really hope that I helped you.
